2020 has been a year like no other in so many ways. It has tested everyone’s resolve and resilience.
For many people this year is characterised by the devastation of the pandemic; however, it has also shown that humans and communities are resilient, and that some of our traditional norms now may be outdated. It is often significant crises that stimulate the most rapid of change and innovation; the ability to create, test and distribute an effective vaccine for a complex virus in less than a year being an outstanding example of this.
For those in the Information Technology space, we have been asked to step up by our business colleagues and deliver the new normal – home or virtual working for many officed based workers. In many cases this requirement had a few days’ notice, sometimes a couple of weeks gestation. I am proud of how Methods has been able to adapt quickly to continue to support our clients and work productively in a strange world of Zoom and Teams calls.
During 2020 we have worked with a wide variety of health and social care programmes that help manage and advise the UK population on how to deal with COVID-19. Our programme of work with identifying and supporting vulnerable people in particular at a week’s notice, is one of the highlights and Methods can be rightly proud of helping to protect some of the most at-risk people in the country.
My last reflection on 2020 is that the BLM movement has bought equality and diversity very much to the forefront of everyone’s minds. In Methods, we are proud to have a diverse group of colleagues from a very wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and places, and we will continue to employ the best people to deliver innovation and value to our clients.
Have a very happy Christmas break, whether you believe in Santa Claus or not.
