Partnering with Great Ormond Street Hospital
To support the third pillar of our social value policy, we’ve formed a partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has been treating children with rare and complex medical conditions since 1852. GOSH charity supports the hospital’s redevelopment, medical research, patient and family welfare services, and equipment needs. Ranked as the 3rd best paediatric hospital in the world, GOSH aim to provide the best possible healthcare to all children.
Every day, around 750 seriously ill children and young people are seen at GOSH from all over the UK for life-changing treatment and care. GOSH provided more than 63 specialised services in 2021/22, the widest range at any one site in the UK. Specialised services support children with a range of rare and complex conditions such as rare cancers, genetic disorders, or complex medical or surgical conditions.
How Methods can help
Methods has voted for GOSH as our charity of the year. As a result, both Methods and GOSH will be partnering on fundraising, employee engagement, and advocacy work to together support the charity and aid GOSH in their largest ever fundraising appeal – to raise £350 million to build a brand new Children’s Cancer Centre at the hospital, due to open in 2027.
Children and Cancer are two words that should never go together, but sadly 1 in 450 children in the UK are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 14, around 1,800 diagnoses a year.
GOSH, have the people, expertise, research and treatments available to transform cancer care for children but they need to update their facilities to embrace new technologies to aid better, innovative and more gentle treatments and cures. It needs a new home to help deliver breakthrough therapies.
GOSH will be providing an array of exciting volunteering opportunities for us to get involved in, both at the hospital in London, and nationally. These events will include:
- Lunch and Learns to find out more about the work GOSH do and share stories from the young people they support
- Charity staff and ambassador visits and fundraisers
- Places in the GOSH challenge events
- Webinar events to hear directly from hospital staff and patients
- Helping at the annual GOSH Christmas Parties for patients and their families
- Volunteering at the GOSH desk in the hospital
- Event roles at one of many challenge events which take place all across the UK
- Volunteering at the family festival and fun run ‘Race For The Kids’ which takes place every October at Hyde Park
- Volunteering from home by writing thank you cards to GOSH supporters
- Volunteering at partner’s events such as the celebrity football tournament GOALS 4 GOSH at Crystal Palace Football stadium
- Bespoke volunteering days hosted at the office such as helping to source auction prizes from local businesses
- Bucket collections at local train stations.
